What's going on in Animal Welfare Club?
Speaker and Dog Visit
Every year, we have our school drug dog, Bear, visit Animal Welfare so that he and his handler can show a demonstration as well as tell us the importance of having a drug dog and what they do in their work. They speak to us about how Bear is trained for his work and what qualities these drug dogs typically have that make them ideal for this job. After a presentation about the drug dog and the work that they do, Bear and his handler have a quick demonstration of what they may do on a typical work day. He goes through how Bear would behave if he found drugs in the school and how he would alert his handler of the drugs. It was a very informational presentation and we were able to see just one of the many jobs a dog could have.
Dog treats
Recently, members of our club have joined together in making dog treats for the staff members at SHS. We met early on Tuesday morning to pack the dog treats in bags and on Wednesday morning, we delivered it to teachers and workers at SHS. Each bag of dog treats were $4 and the money was donated to a charity. Our club was able to raise over $400. The charity uses the money to buy blankets, toys, food, beds, or anything other supplies that would improve the lives of the animals there.
